[edit] Creating an Advertisement

Navigate to 'My Account', and you will see a section on the right for 'Advertisements'. Enter this section.

The 'Create new Advert' link is at the top of the table; click this and you'll see the form to create a new advert, which currently consists of a header, a visible link, a link, some text, and a 'live' box.

You must fill in a header, a link, and some body text.
The visible link is optional if your real link is short enough. If your real link is long, or contains referral IDs etc, you may prefer to enter just your site's homepage address to be displayed. When clients click the advert, they will actually be sent to the full link.
Checking the box marked 'Set Advert Live' indicates to the Newzbin administration that you want Newzbin's visitors to see this advert. You can leave it unchecked if you're just testing adverts, or you just don't want to go ahead with advertising yet. Entering adverts but not setting them live costs you nothing.

[edit] Editing an Advertisement

You can edit any property of your advert at any time, however please note that editing a live advertisement will require re-validation of the content by a Newzbin administrator (all adverts need validating before they're shown to users). This is normally done quite quickly. Existing statistics will be kept on the advertisement, along with any remaining clicks you have on it.

[edit] Paying For Clicks

Newzbin currently operate a pre-pay system for advertising. In the advert editing page, you buy a set number of clicks, and your advert will run until those clicks have all been used up. In this trial stage, clicks are free, but after the trial, payment for clicks will be accepted by credit card at the prices shown in the buttons. You can buy clicks in increments of 100, 500, or 1000.

We may offer an invoicing option in future, whereby you pay for the last month's worth of clicks, but the volumes of clicks are currently a bit low to make this worthwhile.

Note that you can only buy clicks on an advert once it's been set live.

[edit] Positioning

Advertisements on Newzbin v3 are currently located at the top-right of the homepage only. There is space for 3 advertisements, and 3 are randomly picked and displayed in random order.

Part of the trial is to determine if advertisements embedded in listings (reports/files tables) are appropriate and worthwhile, so this may appear as an option eventually.

It may also be possible in future to add more weight to whether your advertisement is selected or not, and/or select the position (top/middle/bottom) you'd prefer to be in, though how we're going to price this is currently undecided.

[edit] Statistics

By clicking the numbers in the Clicks/Impressions column of your list of adverts, you can get a daily breakdown of how many clicks/impressions and a per-day CT% your advert has had.

The number of clicks per day is a link; click on this to get a list of which IPs have clicked your advertisement, and when. This should match your referrer logs.

You will also notice a 'Valid?' column in the list of clicks. To try and protect against clickfraud, we only count one click from a given IP in ten minutes. Any further clicks do not deduct from your Clicks Remaining figure, and are not counted in the Clicks/Impressions column of the daily breakdown table.

Invalid clicks are only recorded and displayed for your information, statistically they make no difference. They are still redirected, so your referrer logs should match the entire list of clicks, both valid and invalid.
