Newzbin:Lite Mode
From Newzbin Documentation
Lite Mode was created after strong feedback on v3 that the interface was too busy, cluttered, and can get a bit slow at rendering.
To some extent, we agree, but without removing a lot of v3 features, it's pretty much stuck the way it is.
Enter Lite Mode.
In the View Mode panel on the left, you will see 'Enable Lite' or 'Disable Lite' depending on whether you currently have it turned on. Clicking the button will toggle Lite Mode. It's a sticky setting, so after clicking it will remain that way until you click it again (even through logouts).
This is an early stage of a feature under development, and it's not finished. In particular, lots of templates have simply not been converted and are therefore not viewable in Lite Mode.
Here's what's been done to date:
- The homepage
- Viewing a single news item and it's comments
- Viewing all our listing; reports, files, condensed files, NFOs and NZBs are done.
- The report listing popup needs further work, it's rubbish at the moment.
- The new files listing popup is pretty good though ;)
- Viewing a report's details (after you click on a report title in a report listing).
- My Account:
- Exclusions:
- Newsgroup Exclusions (new simpler format, also copied to v3 Full)
- My Preferences is partly done
- Private Messaging
- Change Password / Change Email
- Topups
- Exclusions:
- There's a new 'TM' feature button just under the logo. This toggles the sidebar on/off in realtime, giving more room to the main content pane. This is only a temporary change, after a reload the sidebar will come back.
- There are two new preferences, Header & Sidebar Positioning, that only work in Lite Mode. If they're well received we may port these to v3 Full.
That's pretty much it. These are the most important pages we feel, so we did them first and are setting them live to get some feedback.
If you try to view any other page, you'll simply get nothing - an empty page. This is not a bug, this is just development in progress.
There are no themes in Lite Mode. Whatever theme you're using on 'full' v3 is irrelevant; you will be dropped into a version of Nostalgia V1 (with a few modifications) for Lite.
